Adam Lambert: Our (possibly) gay Idol

If BananaGuide could choose the winner of American Idol we'd most certainly pick Adam Lambert. It isn't because he's possibly gay; it's just that we think he can really (and we mean really) sing.

Of course, since pictures of Adam kissing another man have surfaced on the Internet the whole possibly gay thing has become a bit of an issue. Even moron-elect Bill O'Reilly ranted about "the issue" on his TV show.

And as a recent article in the New York Times points out, one's sexuality can still offend the sensibilities of the viewing audience, meaning Lambert may lose out on his dream because of a few -- or not so few --  haters.

True, we've come a long way since Liberace famously denied being a homosexual in a libel case against a British newspaper. Coming out, once a death knell for someone's Hollywood dreams, didn't have much affect on Neil Patrick Harris' TV career.  But has America really come far enough to overlook someone's sexuality?

David Hernandez, an Idol hopeful from last season, says no. He ran into some difficulty after it was discovered he used to strip at gay bars. But, he says, exotic dancing was not the cause of his downfall. "It wasn't the stripper thing," Hernandez told Michael Musto from the Village Voice. "It was the gay thing. That's Middle America for you."

He doesn't think Lambert will make it much further.
