BBC apologizes for Hugh Grant's 'queen' comment

Hugh GrantThe BBC has apologized for a statement Hugh Grant made during a televised rugby match.

The actor was invited to the commentary box during a match between England and Scotland on Sunday. Grant mentioned that when he played rugby in school he "discovered it hurt less if you tackled hard than if you tackled like a queen.”

Oops.

BBC management reacted to the flood of angry twitters, saying: “We apologize for any offense his comments may have caused.”

BBC has been accused of turning a blind eye to homophobic comments made by presenters and guests. It received a lot of criticism when it allowed Stephen Green, a vocal homophobe, a platform to whine about Elton John's announcement of his first child, for example.

Of course, in this case Grant was right; Queen Elizabeth is almost 85 and would probably suck in a rugby match (though it is a match we'd love to see).
