Even The Boss supports gay marriage

Bruce Springsteen supports gay rightsEarlier this month the gay community found themselves a surprising ally: Bruce Springsteen. It's not that we thought 'The Boss' was a homophobe, it's just that we never considered him particularly political in nature. We were wrong.

Earlier this month Springsteen wrote a letter he titled 'A Brief Statement From Bruce;' in it he expressed his support for New Jersey's gay marriage bill.

"Like many of you who live in New Jersey, I’ve been following the progress of the marriage-equality legislation currently being considered in Trenton," he wrote. "I’ve long believed in and have always spoken out for the rights of same sex couples and fully agree with Governor Corzine when he writes that, ‘The marriage-equality issue should be recognized for what it truly is — a civil rights issue that must be approved to assure that every citizen is treated equally under the law.’ I ... urge those who support equal treatment for our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters to let their voices be heard now."

The vote itself has been postponed and the bill will now be reviewed by the state's General Assembly.

We feel sorry for the other side of the debate. For every Springsteen we get, they have to suffer through the Palins and Prejeans of the world. Sucks to be them.
