Two major search engines, Bing and Yahoo, no longer allow access to adult content in India. The change is in response to a new Indian law that forces ISPs and Internet café operators to do everything in their power to disable access to pornographic content. Charges can result in a $11,000 fine and a three-year jail sentence.
Bing users will now find the message "your country or region requires a strict Bing SafeSearch setting, which filters out results that might return adult content," in lieu of the penis or pussy they were hoping to see.
Both Yahoo and its photo-sharing site Flickr prevent Indian users from turning off the safe-search feature. Similar blocks exist in Singapore, Hong Kong and Korea.
Since most call centers have now been outsourced to India, get ready for a bunch of cranky customer service reps!
