Mayor resigns over old sex scandal

Chris Myers, the mayor of Medford, New Jersey,  resigned this week, even though he said he never would. In October news leaked about his alleged meeting with a young hustler he met on Craigslist; the escort posted pics of the sleeping Myers and a picture of the mayor's ID card, and wrote about not getting gifts that had been promised to him (like a car!).

“My work commitments will not allow me to devote the time that is needed in the months ahead,” the 46-year-old wrote at the end of a two-page letter to the township manager and clerk. “That is why, today, I am resigning from the Medford Township Council, effective immediately.”

When the story broke, Myers didn’t deny the allegations or answer whether he was gay or bisexual. However, he later denied the escort's claims during a November 3 council meeting.

Mixing metaphors, Myers said, “it’s time to pass the baton, and allow others to take the reins.” He added he was “looking forward to leaving the public arena and enjoying the next chapter of my life with the most wonderful family and friends any one could ask for.”

We bet he'll also be damn careful not to fall asleep while in the company of a hustler.
