Sex shop purchase outs Republican mayor

He must have wanted to be caught.

Greg Davis, the married, Republican mayor of Southaven, Mississippi, had been working with state auditors to pay back $170,000 that he had improperly charged to his city-issued credit cards. When auditors asked him about a $67 charge he made at Priape, Toronto's largest gay sex shop, he told the truth.

Davis, who ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2008 on a family-values platform, told the press, "While I have performed my job as mayor, in my opinion, as a very conservative, progressive individual -- and still continue to be a very conservative individual -- I think that it is important that I discuss the struggles I have had over the last few years when I came to the realization that I am gay."

Davis plans to remain mayor until his term is up. There are no criminal charges related to the expenses charged on the credit cards.

So that's what that funny smile of his was all about.
